The Corridor of Wrong Doors

recurring · 2026.10.21

The corridor smells of chlorine and something like burnt toast, and I am walking it with my hand on the rail because the floor tilts a little to the left, the way the deck of the Staten Island ferry tilts when it turns. Number 14 has a brass plate reading DR. HALVORSEN, and I know I am looking for 14, though I have forgotten why, and I can hear a radio inside playing a jingle for a brand I can almost name — something with a bee in it.
